Genetics and Enzymology of Chloramphenicol Resistance

چکیده
that growth on phenylacetamide could not be attributed to any residual activity of the aliphatic amidase. It seemed clear that the wild type P. putida A87 is capable of producing two separate amidases and carries genes for the structure and regulation of both an aliphatic amidase and an aromatic amidase. Similar conclusions were reached for P . cepacia strain 716. P.putida strain A90 was particularly interesting. It has proved impossible to detect any acetamidase activity in this strain and no acetamide-utilizing mutants have ever been isolated. However, it grows very well on phenylacetamide and thus resembles the acetamide-negative mutant of strain A87 and some of the phenylacetamide mutants of P . aeruginosa PACI. The phenylacetamidase of strain A90 has been purified and still gives no cross reaction with the P . aeruginosa aliphatic amidase antiserum. Further studies on these amidases may indicate whether the genes for the naturally occurring acetamidases and phenylacetamidases have a common ancestry or are of independent origin.

Multidrug Resistance in Infants and Children
Bacterial infections may cause disease and death. Infants and children are often subject to bacterial infections. Antimicrobials kill bacteria protecting the infected patients andreducing the risk of morbidity and mortality caused by bacteria. The antibiotics may lose their antibacterial activity when they become resistant to a bacteria. The resistance to different antibiotics in a bacteria is ...
متن کاملMolecular identification of Salmonella Infantis isolated from backyard chickens and detection of their resistance genes by PCR
This study aims at molecular identification of Salmonella Infantis isolated from backyard chickens and the detection of their antibiotic resistance genes. A total of 46 Salmonella-suspected samples isolated from backyard chickens of northern Iran were collected. Serotyping was done by the traditional method and then confirmed by PCR. Antimicrobial susceptibility of the isolates against 13 antim...

Abstract Background and Objective: Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are the leading nosocomial pathogens in Iran. We aimed at evaluating the resistance patterns of Staphylococcus aureus and enterococci to the antibiotics recommended by Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). Material and Methods: Two-hu...
متن کاملDetection of TEM Gene in Clinical Isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli in Isfahan province (from 2018)
Background: The isolation of the TEM gene in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli and the antibiotic resistance pattern provides useful information on the epidemiology and factors involved in these infections. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate antibiotic resistance and abundance of a beta-lactamase gene (TEM) in P.aeruginosa and E.coli isolated from clinical specimens by the po...
متن کاملThe fitness cost of rifampicin resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa depends on demand for RNA polymerase.
Bacterial resistance to antibiotics usually incurs a fitness cost in the absence of selecting drugs, and this cost of resistance plays a key role in the spread of antibiotic resistance in pathogen populations. Costs of resistance have been shown to vary with environmental conditions, but the causes of this variability remain obscure. In this article, we show that the average cost of rifampicin ...
